15 Things that could make a "HUGE" difference

(my view of it all,,, am I so off base?)

If we are going to help others, For God sakes, Lets help in things that WILL make a difference, so a high number of these people have a chance at productive lives again, with the objective to go "off the system" through a set period of time Program, along with making realistic differences in the communities of the united states as a whole

I have to confess, those who are completely bedridden in long term care, I do not know what they need.  But I am sure the families that tend to them know. But for those on disability, who might have a chance at working again, and for those of below average income, I do feel I am qualified to voice my option at what makes the difference and what does not for those. But for those sick, who might be capable of more with the right tools, and those less advantage in low incomes, I feel I do, cause I am one of those, and have talked to others now who also are seeking help or is in the system now, getting help.

1) First of all, when someone is ill, they need quality medical attention. If someone has a condition, a general clinic doctor does not fit the bill. Although they could be the best family doctor in the world, one still should be treated by a specialist who is dealing in those conditions.  Without it, they will not really have the best possible chance for recovery if possible enough to ever become self reliant.  We need doctors to stay longer in the system, and have more incentives, or whatever it takes to work with these specialist more so they do not leave the system.

2) Once someone is being treated, test, medications and treatments for such condition should be covered, because without such, they will not recover.  You have to remember, these people do not have other resources for hardly anything!  If it is not covered, most likely the attempt to fix the medical problem is defeated. Once someone is making additional income, then they should become part of a share of cost program on an income sliding scale within the program.  Eventually, as that income grows, their should be a group plan put together, so they can continue health benefits, but on a separate program according to their income, should they need such after the program is done with them.  This is necessary, so that they maintain the best health for there condition possible.  Without such, they could fall back into the system again.  (I was an insurance broker at one time, so I do know something about this!  I AM THE PRIME EXAMPLE OF HOW THIS HAPPENS....)

3) If someone is NOT homeless yet, there should be efforts to keep them from going homeless. This only creates more needs in the end, and long term helplessness to correct the situation.

Personally, I think people have different situations so different results and help is needed, depending on these situations. Those with low incomes, but who are healthy, might need additional education to provide better income.

4) If people we are going to help those in need with low incomes, I think they should be in a program that runs from 6 months to 24 months, depending on each person and those needs and resources available to them. Once they get such help, they are on their own!  They can't keep coming back and forth for assistance.  It should be a planned program.

5) People asking for help should be tested for drinking and drugs abuse. No one can help anyone doing such because if there is substance abuse, they mostly likely cannot even help themselves if they wanted too, wasting time and money, where others could be helped instead. For those that do have problems, no one can help them unless they are put away for a period of time to dry out! (unfortunately, that's just the facts!) And then should be tested constantly to ensure such efforts are not being wasted.

6)  If someone has a roof over their heads they should get help not to lose it.  Not wait until they are homeless and then try to fix the problem.  Of course if someone owns a home, you have to consider resources, but the FIRST PRIORITY SHOULD BE TO SECURE what shelter they have and to keep the electricity and water from being cut off. They might need food stamps, but at least they will have a place to put that food, and to cook it on. It sometimes cost more to move than to stay.

7) If people need food assistance, don't play with it.  Give it to them or don't. Don't keep Qualify them every month. Go ahead and give qualify them for the entire time they are on the program.  Once they start making income, don't just take it away instantly. They need time to get on their feet.  Just because they make that first dollar, does not mean they have money!  They have to have time to adjust financially to most people in this situation have issues that have not been addressed due to their situation.  Instead, it would make more sense to put them on a sliding scale once they start working, or start in a different phase of such a program.  To continue helping, but on a sliding scale so they will have a cushion in the budget until they are completely cut off such program.  When someone has been financially distorted, having such assistance might make the difference in buying food VS RENT.  A sliding scale is more realistic than putting them on and off, creating more paper work and overhead, and allowing them more finances in areas that will keep them from homelessness.  Having them go in and out of a system, cost more in the long and does not help getting them stable so they will not return to the system, not to mention nutritional needs for kids and those with health issues.

8) Those that have children, and with the high cost of daycare, or no daycare, helping in that areas while a single parent is in school and work, I think can also make a difference.  I know there is something now in place, I have no idea what it is.  But, day care is so high, it leaves many parents in poverty level leaving kids unattended VS homelessness, due to such high cost.  When day care is half the income, there is a problem......  I just know this is a reality that has to be addressed.

9) For those on low income, who are head of household, I think additional career training and education is a must.  The reason they are in poverty is they have a low income job that many cannot support a family with. The only way to get out of that situation, is to learn a better skill, for a better position. In such a program, I feel there should be an opportunity for such, along with some form of job placement.

10) For those who are disabled, additional rehabilitation and education should be established. Right now with rehabilitation, there are many who could do more if "Home Agent Jobs/careers" were created in the marketplace.  There are companies now who are hiring those in the home, but its a new field.

Many government jobs could be established for those with disabilities, and for those that could handle such positions, working from home.  This would give so many disabled people, who could handle such a position in the home an opportunity for complete self reliance saving millions in disability payouts. In addition, by creating incentives and tax breaks to private companies who offer such "FULL-TIME" employment in CAREER home agents, (without pay or benefit cuts) provided they offer a small percentage of full time agents of 40 hours to disabled (through the disability training program), and a lesser tax break for hiring disabled home agents outside of the program.

 11) I think to receive such a help from a program, people have to realize they are in financial prison, and in order to get help, must attend some form of financial budgeting, savings, and career educational classes.

 12) And, if they receive help to better enhance their lives, that they should have to pay back into the program, once they have completed such program.  Even if just a little... for such assistance, once they have completed the program...  Even a small amount for the next year to help others and to return such back into the system that helped them.

13) Something needs to be done about the credit reporting agencies.  Here is why.. Those that have lower income, or medically needed, have financial difficulties.  Many of these people were NOT abusing their credit.  They were without a job, could not find a decent job enough to keep them from poverty, or due to an illness, became financially strapped.  Here is what happens.....  (you have to remember, I am not talking about those that went out and abused dozens of credit cards for shopping purposes, that's different!) When someone is financially strapped, the credit is destroyed.  SO MANY PEOPLE who could get decent jobs above poverty level are not getting the jobs, simply because they have slow credit or poor credit.  I personally know of someone who has 15 years of solid and honorable military background, who had to file backrush after they returned from war.  They became depressed and lost everything. They have management skills. They are now able to work, and cannot because of the credit creating homelessness.  They were aurally hired by a company at $38,500 a year, and the same day of training, they were let go because of their credit report came back as slow.... He is skilled for a position for $45,000 a year, yet he has to take a job for $ 21,000 cause he has poor credit.

Of course nothing wrong with criminal background checks and drug testing for jobs, but it is discriminating to hire based on a credit rating...  Those that would have poor credit rating are the ones that need good jobs the most, if you think about it.  So, something needs to be done about this.  Jobs should NEVER be based on a credit rating, unless one is handling finances in a financial institution. Only then should something like that come in to play. There has to be something for people who are medically needy and those who have had difficulties, and those who are in such a program or they will never get out of poverty if they cannot be hired...

 14)  Why in gods name is insurance companies still allowed to group people, making insurance rates higher for some and less for others.  I sold insurance in the past, and I can clearly say that I have seen the same insurance company give the same condition person different coverage's and even denied coverage's because they are in a small group VS a larger one.  For goodness sakes, make companies put everyone in the same pool....

If the government really wants to put together a US health reform, way not put your own package together into ONE POOL of HMO, that HAS doctors, specialist, and realistic means and let people volunteer into it.  I bet the that would FORCE insurance companies to go down in price, it would create such a competition pools of companies in the marketplace just by creating such, and at the same time, would allow help so many that now have no coverage at all.

AND LAST >>>>

15)  TOO many USA government grants are being used for charities to help those with medical conditions for "OTHER COUNTRIES" !!!!
I want to help 3rd world countries just like the next human being, but oh my GOD, I think there should be a limit and a priority somewhere!  I about fell out of my chair after doing some homework in this area, as a US citizen looking for adult medical help and guess what?  There are none here that I could find.  Its all going to 3rd world countries.

How did this happen I ask myself. Then I went to the SBA and other grant government websites and looked up at all the charities and other organizations who are doing this...   80% of money in the US to help medically needy adults is going out of the country!

I looked on the internet and don't believe me. Just go to goggle or yahoo or AOL or your favorite search engines and press in key words >  similar to these....   "medically needy charity adult...  The proofs in the pudding!
Someone forgot to tell these American charities that "CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME!"  forget about little ole me...  My goodness.  I know there are charities here in the US that are helping somewhere in my own back yard. Who they are, I have no idea cause out of 500 organizations for medical needy, only 2 of those were keeping money here.  And those were for kids only...  At least we have those I guess....

Someone in America who needs medical assistance, I assure you will get faster help as an American by flying to a 3rd world country and then asking for that help back from American charities.   LITERALLY!

If government has any forms of grants for such organizations, they should lay down the laws saying only a Percentage can go out of this country from such funds.  Now is it me, or is something wrong with this picture?  Do I need to say more about what should be done on this problem?  Only a complete idiot would not know this is a problem.

I am saying take the same money, and use it for lasting results.  Maybe it will take more money up front, but I really believe it would take "less" in the long run, will make lower income families more average income families who will not return to the system.  And for those you help, they will give back to the same system a little bit, depending on income, to help others like they were helped.  And for those with part time disabilities, it will allow many of these to completely become self reliant again, despite those disabilities, who will not need to remain in the system, FREEING MILLIONS THERE ONCE HELPED....  It will not help all, but it would help a HIGH PERCENTAGE, which will make a HUGE difference.

I do not have a college education and I am not trying to feed the world here.  But I really think so much of this crap we have to deal with as a society could be changed with just a little common since.   You have people in congress, doing nothing all day but changing the laws, and allow lobbies to dictate to you, what you do, instead of listening to the people...  Why not let the people vote more on what they want.  Then maybe you will Know what to do... What most people want...   DO What's RIGHT....   We don't need new laws... We need the ones we have protected, and we need to view the ones we have in place now, to see what's right, fair, and logical....

Feed a fish for a day that's all you have.
Teach him how to fish, and he will never grow hungry.
Don't just throw him the bate, and just expect lasting results!

But what do I know...
